The plant, by the plant

En garde! I'm the Philodendron Silver Sword - my blade-shaped leaves unfurl in genuine metallic silver-grey and deepen to steely blue-green as they mature. It's not a filter; I really am this reflective.

I'm a climber from the forests of southeastern Brazil: give me a pole and bright, indirect light, and my swords grow longer and grander with every duel - I mean, leaf. Water when my topsoil dries; I'm passionate, not needy.

What you'll get (no surprises):

  • Medium - 140mm nursery pot, approx 15-25cm
  • Large - 200mm nursery pot, approx 30-50cm

Pets: swords stay sheathed - toxic if chewed.

Give me a Coconut Coir Totem to scale, and a Cooper Pot in Grey to complete the gunmetal look.

Key attributes

This popular indoor plant has large silver, almost metallic-looking leaves. The new leaves on the Silver Sword start as a pale metallic grey and become a deeper blue colour as the plant matures. Naturally it is a clumping plant but it can be planted on to one of our totems or left to drape over the edge of the pot.

  • Bright, indirect, filtered sunlight.
  • Water moderately, allow the top 3cm of soil to dry.
  • Not so pet friendly.
